1Gavarnie Tourist Office
  • Take the access road to the village, opposite the Gavarnie Tourist Office.

2Bellevue Forest and Plateau
  • Head right towards the church, walk past the cemetery and, at the first junction, carry on straight ahead.
At the second junction, turn right and walk steadily uphill along the edge of the forest.
The slope becomes steeper and the path winds its way up several times to reach the Bellevue plateau and a crossroads of paths (signposted; higher up, the Pouey Aspé hut: shelter).

3The Gave des Tourettes
  • Turn left and head down towards the Gave des Tourettes.
Cross it via a footbridge and, immediately afterwards, take the path on the left.
It winds its way down through the Bois du Bourlic and reaches a junction further down.

4Prade Plateau
  • Turn left, leaving the path leading to the bottom of the cirque straight ahead.
Cross the Gave des Tourettes via a footbridge and continue above the grassy slopes of La Prade Saint-Jean.

5Franz Schrader’s Headland
  • Leave a wide path on your right and continue straight ahead to climb up onto a small outcrop.
Cross over to the opposite side, then take the track that runs alongside the river on the left bank as far as the village of Gavarnie.

5Gavarnie Tourist Office
  • Follow the same route you took on the way there to get back to the car park.

It is recommended that you use the services of a mountain professional (guide or leader) when hiking this summer route (to be undertaken when there is no snow).
