Uncover your treasurein the heart of the valley
Luz-Saint-Sauveur, with its architectural heritage and charming built environment, will continue to captivate you… The narrow streets of the historic quarter, its wash houses, the wrought-iron balustrades of its balconies and its marble window frames will transport you back to the golden ages of the medieval and modern eras.
The history of Luz-Saint-Sauveur dates back to the Middle Ages, when the village developed as a strategic crossroads in the heart of the Pyrenean valleys. The narrow streets are arranged around the imposing church known as the ‘Templars’ Church’, built between the 12th and 14th centuries. Over the centuries, Luz-Saint-Sauveur became an important hub for the surrounding valleys, combining pastoral activities, trade and local traditions.
In the 19th century, the village experienced a new boom thanks to its thermal spas, attracting numerous visitors, including Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie de Montijo.
Today, the village retains traces of this rich past through its heritage, its narrow streets and its unique atmosphere, blending history with the Pyrenean way of life.
