Luz is the ideal base for canyoning, situated close to several sites (all within a 30-minute drive), such as: the Héas Canyon, the Ossoue Canyon and the Gloriettes Canyon.
The Héas Canyon, 2 km from Gèdre and at the foot of the Cirque de Troumouse and Estaubé, is the ultimate fun spot! Suitable for anyone 1m30 and over, it’s perfect for a first canyoning experience, whether with family or friends. Easily accessible from Luz-Saint-Sauveur, it’s quite simply the must-visit beginner’s canyon in the Hautes-Pyrénées!
In Gavarnie, the Lower Ossoue Canyon awaits you in the heart of an exceptional setting, between the Cirque de Gavarnie, the Brèche de Roland and the Vignemale. On the programme: jumps, natural slides and a zip line for a real thrill… with the option to skip the jumps if you’d prefer!
Please note: it is strongly recommended that you undertake this activity accompanied by a guide. This is because the water levels in these streams are affected by the weather, recent storms and dam releases.
For canyoning at these sites, there are dams, water intakes and hydroelectric installations located upstream. Before setting off into the Héas, Gloriettes and Ossoue canyons, check the Niv’Eau app or the canyoning helpline (05 62 92 46 13), which will advise you whether it is safe to descend the canyon.
