Have fun by the water In active mode

Luz-Saint-Sauveur promises adrenaline and thrills. Its picturesque setting and deep gorges, through which the white-water of the Gavarnie flows, make the village a sensational place to enjoy activities that are truly one of a kind.

Dive right into the thick of the action!

Here, nature becomes a vast playground where young and old alike can share excitement, thrills and moments of relaxation. Explore the Héas Canyon amongst waterfalls and natural slides, get your adrenaline pumping with a rafting trip down the rapids of the Gave de Pau, or enjoy a peaceful moment by a lake or mountain stream whilst fishing. With family or friends, you can also enjoy the pool with its views of the mountain peaks.

With sporting challenges, bursts of laughter and shared memories, every activity is an invitation to make the most of the water and the great outdoors.

Pack your swimwear and your good humour: the adventure starts here!

Jump through the canyons

Luz is the ideal base for canyoning, situated close to several sites (all within a 30-minute drive), such as: the Héas Canyon, the Ossoue Canyon and the Gloriettes Canyon.

The Héas Canyon, 2 km from Gèdre and at the foot of the Cirque de Troumouse and Estaubé, is the ultimate fun spot! Suitable for anyone 1m30 and over, it’s perfect for a first canyoning experience, whether with family or friends. Easily accessible from Luz-Saint-Sauveur, it’s quite simply the must-visit beginner’s canyon in the Hautes-Pyrénées!

In Gavarnie, the Lower Ossoue Canyon awaits you in the heart of an exceptional setting, between the Cirque de Gavarnie, the Brèche de Roland and the Vignemale. On the programme: jumps, natural slides and a zip line for a real thrill… with the option to skip the jumps if you’d prefer!

Please note: it is strongly recommended that you undertake this activity accompanied by a guide. This is because the water levels in these streams are affected by the weather, recent storms and dam releases.

For canyoning at these sites, there are dams, water intakes and hydroelectric installations located upstream. Before setting off into the Héas, Gloriettes and Ossoue canyons, check the Niv’Eau app or the canyoning helpline (05 62 92 46 13), which will advise you whether it is safe to descend the canyon.

For more information, see this information leaflet or consult the EDF safety brochure.

Follow the eddies of the mountain stream

Come and have a blast on the Gave de Pau, one of the biggest rivers in the Pyrenees! Setting off from Villelongue or Argelès-Gazost (15 mins’ drive from Luz, with transport available from Luz), set off on a fun and accessible descent suitable for everyone, by raft, kayak or on a ‘hot-dog’.
