Benjamin

I don’t really like talking about myself! I’m passionate about the mountains, and the Pyrenees in particular. I enjoy various outdoor sports, which allow me to explore them both on the ground and from the air.
I’m also passionate about photography, and I love capturing our landscapes and the many activities we enjoy.

Experience the mountains on the sporting front

The Pyrenees in my heart!

I’m a mountain lover, and particularly fond of the Pyrenees. With a touch of local pride, I consider them to be the ‘most beautiful’. Whenever I get the chance to catch a glimpse of the mountains, I never miss the opportunity to admire them. Every second, the light changes and reveals magical aspects of the landscape.

I’ve been paragliding for a while now to experience the Pyrenees in a different way. It’s a unique sport where the view from above is indescribable. What’s more, there’s no shortage of spots here! If there’s one activity I’d recommend, it’s definitely this one. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with a paragliding school.

Here, I’m sharing three of my favourite spots with you, right up close to the mountains.

From photography to cycling My outings around Luz

The hill to tackle here!

I’ve always loved cycling; Luz and the surrounding area are my training routes. On my rides, I never hesitate to stop and take in the view. My favourite mountain pass in the area is the Col de Luz Ardiden; the succession of hairpin bends and the tranquillity of the road make it a truly lovely spot.

As a little bonus, here’s the route for you. To climb the pass, there’s also a lovely road that’s truly typical of the mountains. Head towards Viscos via the D149 from the Gorges de Luz (D921). From there, climb the Col de Luz-Ardiden and you’ll come out onto the main road 4 km from the summit

Would you like to stargaze with incredible views of the Pyrenees?

I love heading off to the Col du Tourmalet after work to stargaze and take photos of the stars. I’m passionate about sports photography, but I also sometimes take photos at night. They’re two different worlds, but it’s so magical to be able to stargaze from this spot. Indeed, the area is ideal for this – we’re in the International Dark Sky Reserve. Here, there’s no light pollution and it’s easily accessible for any stargazer.

3 | Hiking at Piméné

The Pic du Piméné is a spot offering an incredible view of the Gavarnie Cirque and the 3,000-metre peaks in the area.

Setting off from Gavarnie, you’ll be struck by the sheer vastness of the landscape. In spring, avalanches rumble down the cirque; in autumn, the light is magical, with golden hues on the trees throughout the valley.

The trail begins on the path round the cirque before turning left towards the Espuguettes refuge. From there, the climb continues steadily all the way to the summit. On a very early morning hike with Fabienne, using a head torch, I wanted to capture the golden colours of the sunrise on the rocks of the Cirque de Gavarnie. I love these moments when you feel as though you’re in a privileged position, with that unique chance to be in the right place at the right time.
