Hiking in the great outdoors The Counques Hut

Taking in a beautiful view, cooling off in the woodland or by a lake, admiring the rustic barns and hilltop villages, or simply having a nap at altitude – these are all reasons to put on your walking boots, grab your rucksack, grab an IGN map or a guidebook, and set off on an adventure along the hiking trails.

1 hour 30 minutes return Discover Ardiden Luz

Enjoy the tranquillity of this ski resort, an idyllic rural setting where, as the warmer weather arrives, herds of cows and sheep take the place of skiers. A wide path climbs gently towards the Counques plateau and its shepherd’s hut (private property). Along the way, take a moment to admire the sweeping view down over the village of Luz-Saint-Sauveur.

  • On the path leading to the Col de Riou, after the restaurant on the right, continue along the route until you reach the stone hut. Occupied by a shepherdess during the summer months, it is situated on the path leading to the Col de Riou. You can find a quiet spot for a picnic a little further on.

It is recommended that you use the services of a mountain professional (guide or leader) when hiking this summer route (to be undertaken when there is no snow).
